Equipping children’s, youth, family, church and community leaders as well as education and other statutory workers Zoe Silvester works for the COINS Trust in Newbury and attended the new Young People, Drugs and the Role of the Youth Worker course.
She said “the training provided by Hope UK was inspiring. Sessions were well planned and clearly delivered. I came away with an increased knowledge of drugs and drug issues. The practical approach meant I have new ways to support the young people I work with. Time was available to look at case studies which related to specific issues I face every day in my work.”
Flexible training courses are available across the UK, ranging from short workshops to two-day Open College Network (OCN) accredited courses. Children’s, youth, community, church and family workers have all benefited as well as teachers and other statutory professionals.
Young People, Drugs and the Role of the Youth Worker is a two-day OCN-accredited course which can take place over two consecutive or single days. This course may also be adapted for schools and others whose work brings them into contact with young people.
Drug Prevention for Family Workers is a two-day course for those working in Children’s and Family Centres or with parents. Children’s or Community Development workers will also find this course of benefit.
The Drug Proof Your Kids® programme is provided by Care for the Family in partnership with Hope UK. Trained Presenters organise parents’ courses over a six-week period. One two-hour session is provided each week. Visit www.dpyk.org.uk to find out more.
For Hope UK training events, costs are negotiated on an individual basis. For example, a consecutive two-day course (church or voluntary group) with the venue provided by a host organisation would cost £150 plus £25 per learner per day. Separate rates apply for commercial and statutory organisations. (Courses have been funded by grant-making trusts following a joint application made by Hope UK and the host group.)
Hope UK’s Drug Educators undergo a 120-hour OCN accredited course to prepare them for leading drug awareness sessions and training courses. The Drug Educator training course is also available for those who want to provide drug education as part of their own work but do not wish to become Hope UK Educators. Costs are negotiable depending on venue and requirements.
