It is often the case that Christians need to use secular services alongside the spiritual support that can be given within a church context.

For Christians, the faith dimension can bring confusion as well as clarity. What happens if prayer is offered up for someone and there is no obvious answer? Why are some people miraculously ‘delivered’ from their addiction and not others? What can a church do?
Prayer is an important component of any Christian intervention. However, sometimes people may not wish to ask for prayer from those they know well. United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) and Premier Radio each offer a prayer service.
Nick Russell-Smith, an experienced counsellor and YWAM (Youth with a Mission) Trainer, has experience of working with dependent people individually and as a group. Click here to read his article about local church action.
Hope UK maintains a Directory of Christian Counselling and Treatment Services. This will soon be available on-line. In the meantime, contact us for information about services in your area. Information about other services can be found in the Useful Links section.
It is important to remember that addiction is sometimes best viewed as the tip of an iceberg because there are many more people suffering from some form of drug-related problem than are ‘addicted’. It is possible to intervene at an early stage so as to prevent problems occurring. People do not have to hit ‘rock-bottom’ before help is offered.
Hope UK’s Family Worker training course has been designed to bridge the gap between prevention activities and the opportunity that Family Workers have to intervene at a stage before the alcohol or drug use of parents gets so severe that children suffer. Up to 1.3million children are already suffering because of their parental drinking – the equivalent figure for illegal drugs is 250,000 to 350,000. If you would be interested in hosting a Family Worker course, then please contact Hope UK.
Details about other training can be found here.
