Alcohol-free drinks can be used informally. A survey carried out at Spring Harvest in the mid-1990’s showed that church-linked young people had just as much access to drink and illegal drugs as their peers. The only Christian ‘protective element’ appeared for those young people who showed significant Christian commitment. If they regularly prayed or read their Bible, then there was a link with a lower likelihood of using illegal drugs or alcohol.
